EDUCATION AND THE PRINCE MUSIC THEATER

The Prince Music Theater has been a strong advocate for the creation of new musical theater works in America. In addition to promoting new works, we have been committed to developing new audiences for musical theater and to exposing young people to all facets of musical theater production since our founding in 1984.

Through the award-winning Rainbow Company and the Youth Arts in Action program, the Prince has given young people the opportunity to hone their skills as both writers and performers. In doing so, we strive to help young people to find their voices and to develop their abilities to shape their own destinies through the creative discipline and the collaborative process of the theatre arts. The work they do in these programs allows them to express their hopes and dreams and share with one another the ways in which they handle the challenges of their daily lives.

In doing so they learn, not only about the world of musical theater, but also, and more importantly, they learn a great deal about themselves as individuals, as artists and creators and as fully participating members of a group process. At an age when they are trying to establish their individuality, collaborating is sometimes very difficult for young people. The results of their work here provide a very vivid example of the value of working together toward a goal and one that is not lost on them.
