The Wood Brothers bring their soulful sound to the Prince Friday, February 21st for one show only. The band tours in support of their highly-acclaimed new album The Muse released this October on Zac Brown’s Southern Ground imprint.
The Wood Brothers formed in 2005, after brothers Oliver and Chris Wood spent years pursuing individual music careers. Chris Wood is most well-known for his role as the bassist in the avant-garde jazz trio, Medeski, Martin, and Wood. Oliver Wood performed with MM&W as a guest musician, and the brothers soon began collaborating. With Oliver’s penchant for songwriting and Chris’s ability for intricate composing, the brothers quickly found that they were on to something.
Now, some eight years, five albums & many sold out shows later, The Muse is a statement to The Wood Brothers ingenuity as musicians.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Wood said the new album was very eclectic. “The album has a lot of variety on it. ‘The Muse’ is very acoustic and lyrical, but then you go the other end of the album, and there’s “Honey Jar,” which is a little more raunchy and raucous with the electric guitar and drums. We have a variety of textures represented on the album. Thematically, I think the songs are all over the place.”
